Community Support

The volunteer group set up at the start of the Covid-19 public health emergency  remains in place and can help with shopping, prescription collection, friendly phone calls or dog-walking for elderly, vulnerable, quarantining or self-isolating Churt residents when  necessary. It does not replace Waverley Social Services or other established village organisations.

The number to call with your support request is 07760 473056 Mondays to Fridays only, between 10am and 6pm. Please leave a message with your name, phone number and very brief details of your request and a member of the team will get back to you within 24 hours to discuss your request and how it will be met. The system is designed with protection of both volunteers and those requiring assistance in mind and includes measures to ensure protection of the minimal personal data required. As soon as possible, and in any case within 24 hours, the support team’s duty officer will get back to you to discuss your request. Rest assured that all our volunteers have been verified as bona-fide Churt residents and that any personal information which you need to divulge will be kept in strictest confidence. Your contact details and an outline of your request (without any personal details) will be posted on the Churt WhatsApp Volunteer Group; a Volunteer will pick it up and contact you. The Volunteer will liaise directly with you to understand the scope and details of your requirement and how any payment to cover your shopping or prescription will be handled.

A resident requesting prescription collection will need to share some personal information with their volunteer; this includes, full name, full address, date of birth, type of medication and quantity to be collected. The Volunteer will keep this information in strictest confidence.

To protect help requestors, when actioning a request, volunteers are asked to identify themselves with official Identification.  During the Covid public health emergency, personal contact will be limited and at all times, both volunteer and help requestors are asked to follow the current government Covid guidelines, including social distancing, hand sanitising, avoiding indoor spaces and mask wearing in situations where this is appropriate. To minimise risk, deliveries will normally be placed on the front porch whilst the volunteer lets the requestor  know it is there and stands back.

If any volunteer or any member of their household shows Covid-19 symptoms or is required to self-isolate, then they will cease all CCS Group activity IMMEDIATELY.
